State sponsored community arts projects? Are they good? Are they bad? Don’t worry, we figured it out (don’t think about it), today on Art and Labor! Lucia, OK and Sarah comb through some PDFs that don’t quite say the quiet part loud as much as psychotically dump the job of empire onto the soft hands of us meagre propagandists. We’re not saying don’t get you your grant money, we’re very pro leeching of Amerikkka, but at least right here right now we’re willing to say that a mural painted to look like a Faith Ringgold quilt is in fact not a suitable replacement for vaccine mandates. Plus! Never trust a fancy lad, is revolution possible, will the Knockdown Center please host my Happening that will let you know what to do in Afghanistan? Tweet at the show how many kids you think are gonna die this semester of school, and the closest guess gets a free t shirt! This week OK, Lucia and Sarah are subtextually talkin trash- the ipcc report that shall not be named and the unmentioned garbage days they all had in the triple goddess of Art Jobs- working 2 artist-but-not-art jobs, working on your actual shit in a windowless room, and aimless walks around bushwick. Think of this week’s discussion as the negative space around a drawing of a vase- wow, it looks just like someone getting skinned alive when you cross your eyes and pull your head back 6”-12” inches!
Looking for a shining light at the end of the tunnel? Check out the new Constructing the Real course where we’ll be reading Breaking Things At Work by Gavin Mueller and going from there. To join the Dunkin’ Junta, check out https://www.constructingthereal.com/volunteer to get on the discord where scheduling’s still being being hammered out.
The democrats are a disgusting and incompetent excuse for a political party, example 9999. Why even entertain the blue conservatives being any better?? Because they learned how to parrot some left words? Is the alternative really any less exhausting? The creep president said the creep governor should resign, so will he? Maybe being Italian will hold up as a legal defense, we may never know ’cause nobody’s charging him. CW: This episode we joke around about suicide. If you’re not in the mood for it, feel free to skip (it’s mostly a filler episode anyway, since we caught up to the manga, we’ll get back to the main plot next week).
Descend into the deep scorpionic undertide, with your pals (seriously, we’re pals) at Art & Labor! This week Lucia, Sarah and OK crawl around on the seabed floor like the bottom feeders they are, fulfilling their ecological niche of Vessel Updates™, I Told You Sos™ (Delta Varient), and Pollyanna Scolding™. Think of us right now as those black tar turds you got when you did the Master Cleanse. Let us bloodlet some of those humours for you, this week on Art and Labor!

Hey there Baysiders and Ridgewooders, Art and Labor here, your one and only source for the scandalous lives of brooklyn’s finest backwash. Spotted on the steps of a Glendale bodega, an A&L reuniting with JDJ? There’s nothing O, D, and S love more than a rousing round table on electoralism, but is the DSA really ready to play ball with the big leagues? Democrats aren’t exactly known for playing fair, or rather, playing fair anywhere they’ve already won a power struggle. Eric Adams might have won the throne of Democratic primary candidate for the mayoral race already, but an independent working class has a way of toppling crowns, preferably with guillotines. We’ll just have to see if so called leftists have it in them to reign a little terror. No matter what, though, you know A&L is expropriating all the luscious details.
We got Darcie and OK checking in on Lucia and Vinnie in BRAZIL! Ya know, with the good Amazon (for now). We thank Lucia for hexing Bolsonaro, and pray this is “the one” so she can join the big celebration! Hear all about Lucia’s trip so far: food, art, stray dogs, tanks, etc. It’s fun to vicariously live through someone braving international travel rn!! Then we talk about big corps/brands. Is it possible to boycott a Pepsico or Nestle or Amazon (bad one) as their tendrils continue to branch and mutate? Support the Frito-Lay workers strike fund either way!!! OK and Sarah slightly lose it this week talking to their guru at the top of the mountain, possible legend, and internet auteur Topher Florence aka Docfuture1. Actually coming from Something Awful in the early 2000s, Topher’s work as a writer and video artist cut to the bone, and present a highly informed perspective of fandom, cringe culture, anonymous cruelty aka the “caldron of suburban internet”. Why did Disney buy Marvel? Why has isekai taken off in the past decade? Why do we still differentiate between high and low culture, even though we know better? An episode for the Real Ones and a desperate attempt by OK to history-build a hagiography in order to justify all this other shit we do. We’re starting a cult for if you ever wanted to be your own boss, set your own hours, and huff paint while flashbacking to Gooey Gus. Get in on the ground floor if you’re ready to change your life!

Beautiful Bay Area babes Sam Lefebvre and Lor came to town and we had us a glorious struggle session about, what else, the precarious and confusing class positioning of artists. Plus, what should artworkers and activists demand wrt public control of museum endowments and governance? Also, rent boards are HR for land antagonisms for real!!! We even debate post-capitalist horizons and if it’s possible to dissolve the secondary markets. Did I mention Lor is assisting cyborg feminist hero Lynn Hershman Leeson?? ?Special emergency election pod!!? We’re joined by poet-warrior and former candidate for NY State Assembly Joey De Jesus (@DeJesusSaves)! Which hidden item in the Eric Adams room are you? OK (duraflame log), Sarah (gun in pillow), and Joey (crack pipe in doll) discuss the deets on all the city council races, complete with the DSA infighting drama you crave. tbh, it’s not drama, it’s necessary self criticism!! Required listening for anyone willing to be gazed upon by the affidavit ballot abyss, able to endure the psychological effects of being the one running, or otherwise self-trepanned enough to have an attachment disorder with the democrats. Check our Patreon for a bonus snackcast episode where we have some ice cream and spicy takes about confronting bosses and police.
Today’s episode, you beg of us? Why, it’s an INTERVIEW with a real life big city ARTIST!! Patrick Quinn joins the ol’ Art and Labor down home country jamboree talking about how to stick it to the system with Sisi Rentals, tagger teen drama (is writing indeed politics by other means? Spoiler alert: yes!), the mayoral race that somehow continues to hold real bodies in space/time inside the real, physical neurological pathways of our brains, plus where to get a free hot dog in times square!
