The crew discusses the inevitable Jewish civil war between the surge of nuclear families (zionism) and cringe polycules (New York cultural secularism.) I think we also advocated for a Hot Hot Heat revial, but that might have been the paywalled episode, you can find that here. Wow! Every day is an adventure with Art and Labor 2!~~~~ 😀

A message to the people of Bushwig: BREAK THE CHAIN, ANNEX MASPETH. What is this episode? If I recall correctly we discuss how capitalists attempt to resolve what communist art theorist Adam Buttrick calls “the Bad Vibes Contradiction” through crypto, AI, Canva, and other data vultures in the culture industries. Chelsea Manning DJs Nightcore, not Hyperpop, one is the people’s algorithm, the other belongs to the music business. What’s our role in automation, in our own displacement? The prison will not absorb us, we are building up to a break.

OK and Sarah this week cover the first two episodes of Nathan Fielder’s new video art collection The Rehearsal and larger labor politics of cast and crew, the work’s relationship to his former practice on Comedy Central, and the 2010 Tino Sehgal performance of This Progress at the good ‘ol famously liberatory Gug. Do you remember when Alec Baldwin killed that lady? Does your work love humans? Have you tried art? PS – Wild speculation about BeyoncĂ© in front of Happy Fun dressed as Regalo’s green salsa.

A return to definitely a type of form, the Galleria caucus of Art and Labor (OK and Sarah) reckon with the eternal struggle of Knowing They Did A Gentrification To Bushwick. You, reader, however, are now yourself trapped in my web, unable to stop passively reading this sentence, which is that Kylie Minogue always has at least a couple songs on each album that sound like Starburst commercials, at least one absolute banger, and a bunch of shit. Aphrodite, however, is an entire album of Starburst commercials, and it’s a perfect driving album for the woman on the go with a cracked windshield and dangerously (but also sexily) corroded brake pads. We mostly, however, talk being abolitionists in the face of hateful tragedy like the Rash arson and debrief on the 7th annual Sonic 2006 party. If there was anyone in the north Brooklyn who deserved to be set aflame that night, it was probably us, sorry to all who attended. I also tell the same exact story I did last time I recorded about my sister getting hit by a Tesla, it’s a real meat and potatoes episode folks, we aim above all other things to be your comfort characters.

We had a tweet go viral! Artnet published a pseudoscience garbage article claiming that artists’ brain chemistry causes them to not what to be paid for their work, we told them to fuck off with that noise. This episode breakdown the discourse, and get into plenty of tangents along the way!! This episode was recorded on the streets of Chelsea and Bushwick. Later doodle-bitches!

Welcome new listeners! Art and Labor focuses on the on-going struggle to survive as an art or cultural worker. We chronicle the stories of social justice organizing within the arts, and believe in centering the human cost of the “art world” and advocate for fair labor practices for artists, assistants, fabricators, docents, interns, registrars, janitors, writers, editors, curators, guards, performers, and anyone doing work for art & cultural institutions.
