That’s right folks, Lucia’s back for one night only, coming out of their well as an update to our earlier episode this year on the art world’s response to a war nobody seems to be able to process with nuance. The reading list today comes from Howard Zinn, the Venice biennale, Soviet war correspondent Vasily Grossman, and maybe a special spectre haunting Europe from a past century. Just like the real Truth Coming Out of Her Well, maybe it’s an episode about photography, maybe it’s about the Dreyfus Affair, maybe it’s about knowing you’re about to pass the veil so you prop yourself up to a portrait of Rembrandt to go out looking at the big guy himself!

We start with the Laura Kipnis essay “Transgression, an Elegy” which is difficult to separate from Kipnis herself, the fucking harper’s letter again, etc; but we also tie it to China, and how other countries handle celebrity influence. We talk about localization and the great yuppie exodus of New York City 2020. Propublica confirmed everything we’ve been saying on this show for months, that Cuomo and De Blasio murdered tens of thousands of people through their refusal to shutdown the city. Kicking houseless people off the subways and adding a couple UV lamps are not going to be enough to make people feel safe to do retail and tourism again without also providing massive testing and other essentials like food and rent relief. Which is why China is about to easily overtake the United States as the global superpower, whoopsies. And we thought the city was becoming a giant police state mall BEFORE the pandemic!!
