OK Fox and Eric Kostiuk Willams return with a recap of festival season. We have criticisms and praises for Flamecon in NYC, Queer Trans Zine Fest in Providence, and Small Press Expo in Bethesda. We also discuss All Dolled Up, an event Eric did the poster for and OK attended in an act of rebellion against attempts to ban trans women from strip clubs. As trauma and fractures rise we retreat into the comforts of the erotic arts and call for greater protections and honors for sexy pictures and sex work.

Hey Upper East Siders. The gossip gxrlies are here, and they’re queer stoners now. Our main characters are #1 Charlie Markbreiter, author, PhD candidate, editor at The New Inquiry, and mod of the Death Panel Discord #2 O.K. Fox, Sonic the Hedgehog fetishist and degenerate podcast host. Together they synthesize why white trans guys are annoying, but unfairly maligned as symbols of bourgeois decadence. Given a chance, this T-gel dripping pod will expand you mind about the self organization of fan artists on Deviantart, Furaffinity, A03, and at comics festivals like TCAF forming a front against NFT gentrification. Plus a passage from Charlie’s book about Charli XCX and Gavin McInnes being in or getting off to the Hunger Games.
**Though this clip is fairly tame, we want to put a big content warning on the full episode for discussions of child abuse, sexual exploitation, and bodily violence**
OK gives Sarah a full Toronto report: new Kids in the Hall p good, Canada does not understand iced coffee or hanami, “New York” mode is real and you can harness it to mixed success, and alt comix lanlord art appears as TCAF is being shock doctrine’d?? We eventually get to our review of Everything Everywhere All at Once, which is obviously “it’s actually not insane enough.” History will reveal why Lucia has not been able to be on the podcast lately. Mostly, work sucks, everyone knows, why not enjoy some nice AU fanfic, it’s not gay to dream….I promise….

I have a particular love of songs about how much it sucks to be famous, and true story was the world’s worst English teacher at a summer camp in China and made a bunch of mystified 12 year olds watch the video for Lucky like four times in a row to do a really bad “fill in the lyrics” worksheet. Sorry, kids! Toronto correspondent and living comics legend Eric Kostiuk Williams (@kostiukwilliams) returns to A&L to discuss the ultimate woman posting her L, Britney’s court statement regarding her legalized criminal conservatorship. We also got a segment we call “Oh Right, What’s Canada’s Doing Aboot That?”, a small gag reflex-like aside on local NY politics, how freakin HOT it is, and of course at least 10 minutes on the impact of Toxic alone. Pop in the ol earbuds, get the sink going, and do your dishes with the gentle banter of your real life friends, Lucia, OK, and Sarah, this week on dragon ball z! We finally got Colleen Tighe (@colleentie) in the studio! We have a super fun and extensive discussion on the particulars making art for a living. Colleen is both an accomplished commercial illustrator and prolific creator of socialist art. This is a great episode for anyone grappling with their participation in capitalism and what to envision for art in post-capitalist future. We’re critical and fun at same time!! NYC went to Toronto then Toronto came to NYC!! We’re thrilled to be joined by Eric Kostiuk Williams (@kostiukwilliams) to discuss TCAF, Queers and Comics, pop star labor rights, gentrification, community, and Cher’s QANON tweet. Eric’s newest book “Our Wretched Town Hall” is available from Retrofit. Matthew Thurber joins us as our first in-studio guest!! We discuss his new book Art Comic, now available through Drawn & Quarterly. The book has direct parallels to our lives, it’s kinda nuts, I’m still not over it. We discuss art school problems, new models, ideals, concessions, and debate the merits and pitfalls of book fairs. A big highlight is the part when we all break out Jack Smith impressions. DIY art? Conceptual art? Queer art? All eventually gets sucked up into the dreaded market. We’re gonna work together and fight our way out of this mess. We must!!
