Music business criticism expert, creator of the fantastic Penny Fractions newsletter, and honorary co-host David Turner is back to discuss the depressing merger of Bandcamp and Epic Games. Can companies maintain consciousness? What role does giant multinational corporations like Tencent and Apple play in the geopolitical sphere? Are Fortnite dances going to overtake the petrodollar by 2024? Are we in 9/11 2 or WWIII? We urge everyone to believe in themselves, understand our place in the media pipeline, and focus on what we can control in our immediate.

Hey there Baysiders and Ridgewooders, Art and Labor here, your one and only source for the scandalous lives of brooklyn’s finest backwash. Spotted on the steps of a Glendale bodega, an A&L reuniting with JDJ? There’s nothing O, D, and S love more than a rousing round table on electoralism, but is the DSA really ready to play ball with the big leagues? Democrats aren’t exactly known for playing fair, or rather, playing fair anywhere they’ve already won a power struggle. Eric Adams might have won the throne of Democratic primary candidate for the mayoral race already, but an independent working class has a way of toppling crowns, preferably with guillotines. We’ll just have to see if so called leftists have it in them to reign a little terror. No matter what, though, you know A&L is expropriating all the luscious details.

?Special emergency election pod!!? We’re joined by poet-warrior and former candidate for NY State Assembly Joey De Jesus (@DeJesusSaves)! Which hidden item in the Eric Adams room are you? OK (duraflame log), Sarah (gun in pillow), and Joey (crack pipe in doll) discuss the deets on all the city council races, complete with the DSA infighting drama you crave. tbh, it’s not drama, it’s necessary self criticism!! Required listening for anyone willing to be gazed upon by the affidavit ballot abyss, able to endure the psychological effects of being the one running, or otherwise self-trepanned enough to have an attachment disorder with the democrats. Check our Patreon for a bonus snackcast episode where we have some ice cream and spicy takes about confronting bosses and police.
FIRST FULL IRL A&L! Pure serotonin ep, drink it up, the sorta safe zone window is open, see your friends indoors while you can. Beware the electoral traps, social justice language spells, and pride discourse ops!! How do we build our cultural memory? Is it possible to build a coherent political education?? Can we harden our layers of trauma into solidarity?? I’m very tried I dunno what to write, but I had a lot of fun thanks for coming over everyone! Hey friends! Send your confused relatives #8toAbolition. The best the democrats can do is pretend to ban chokeholds, it’s sickening. We must counteract the Deray-ification of activism, support longstanding anti-gentrification tenants rights orgs in your neighborhood. We talk about all that stuff plus the tricky balance of participating in the protests and staying safe from the second covid wave as well as the disagreements between the more communist or more anarchist wings of the left (and I GUESS the social democrats and liberals). There’s a lot of grim stuff in this episode, and we think you need to hear it because there are collective responses we must be committing to now to mitigate as many deaths as possible. Every healthcare worker is a first responder; and essential maintenance, grocery, retail distribution are right behind them on the front lines. Anyone working in public right now deserves hazard pay, sick pay, and a safe protections against the virus. Our friends at Whole Worker and many others have called for a Global Sick Out on March 31st to address the crisis. Union action is swaying the monsters in government, we must support and join them NOW. If you like the podcast and want more, please consider supporting us: https://www.patreon.com/artandlabor. Happy New Year from A&L x ok.glass!! This is a postmodern free-flowing discussion with nice piano songs in the background.
