Participation trophy caucus of A+L (OK and Sarah) discuss How To with John Wilson’s first episode of their new season, “How to Invest in Real Estate”. We truly love John Wilson, he’s our generation’s neurotic New York white guy, but not a scumbag. As we pray for his career to continue to flourish, let’s do some critical thinking: How do artists balance the necessary self-delusion to create good work with the equally urgent need of insisting on collective solutions to the everyday problems we encounter? Can we give brilliant work the critique it deserves? How could you say no to Mama? How could you see a missing option if you don’t know it exists? OK gets triggered, Sarah reveals her newest psycho theory of mind, and we both sit comfortably in our armchairs smoking cigars while everyone else throws bricks in the streets. Tis the season to have a wide ranging discussion on spirituality. We start with Gnosticism and end with Falun Gong lol. Religion and tradition are being thrown around by all sorts of political actors, can the left compete without the big untraceable and untaxable bux?? We’re stuck in the Merry Christmas Let Them Eat Cake zone, it’s maddening. See you next year! Maybe! Welcome to the stage Ms. “Show” Bezos!! We watched the congressional antitrust committee lightly prod the four biggest tech company CEOs in the country. Surely the system will be able to hold these monopolies accountable and protect our user data! What could go wrong? Excuse me Mr. Google, how do I open PDF? Between surreal dreams we dip in and out of the doomer fog and try to think about or imagine possible futures. There is a huge eviction crisis on the horizon, and a major confrontation incoming as congress fails to extend unemployment insurance (for now). We talk about localization and the great yuppie exodus of New York City 2020. Propublica confirmed everything we’ve been saying on this show for months, that Cuomo and De Blasio murdered tens of thousands of people through their refusal to shutdown the city. Kicking houseless people off the subways and adding a couple UV lamps are not going to be enough to make people feel safe to do retail and tourism again without also providing massive testing and other essentials like food and rent relief. Which is why China is about to easily overtake the United States as the global superpower, whoopsies. And we thought the city was becoming a giant police state mall BEFORE the pandemic!! PS – the only opposition party we have is fighting to protect corporations and fund the cops over workers.
