The new era of Art and Labor cuntinues to shape up with Marshall and OK grooming holocaust, memory, and internet studies scholar Nas to become a new Nakama of the pod-ship. We ask them about so-called progressive Jewish institutions failing to recognize genocide or even twisting “never again” as a disgusting attempt to justify the slaughter of 40,000 Palestinians. We also discuss the demands of the campus protests, and potential strategies for coordination and escalation. Can we imagine a world without private institutions and media? Can we navigate increased violence, repression, and airborne toxins to free ourselves from further isolation? BONUS EP ON MORE VERBOTEN TOPICS HERE 😬

Everyone’s favorite psedo-anonymous arts organizer Nick returns with a thoughtful critique and history of what the group INCITE! coined “the Non-Profit Industrial Complex.” We discuss many of the points from the 2007 (😭 ) manifesto including how NGOs monitor and stunt the power of social movements, allow the ruling class to mask their exploitation through “philanthropy,” and legitimize the capitalist state. Choo choo! hop on board, it’s all your pals at Art and Labor! but wait, …who’s that there? that little caboose yonder? Why, it’s Sam Lefebvre with his new piece “Ruling Class Solidarity: Conflict & Growth at SFMOMA Reexamined” in tow! Together our intrepid boxcars brave a 4 hour time difference for the noblest of tasks: helping podcast listening nerds understand how art museums and the donors that love them make money off those little pictures you only get to see in the Taschen books your stepmom so kindly got you for christmas (take her where she’s at, ok?). Fucking trustees, real estate loans, private equity, and hedge funds, we gotta unearth all these money clowns. Coast2coast solidarity, that’s how we’re gonna do it baby!!! Incredible labor journalist Sarah Jaffe (@sarahjaffe) wrote a new book, and we’re in it! Work Won’t Love You Back: How Devotion to Our Jobs Keeps Us Exploited, Exhausted, and Alone is collection of labor struggles in fields often overlooked, underpaid, or misunderstood. The book is an excellent overview of the type of issues we discuss on this show! Including art jobs, internships, the NGO industrial complex, big tech, retail, gig workers, education, and sports. All through a Marxist feminist lens we vibed with very hard lol. We discuss strategy, the big “was is to be done?” How can we take consciousness raising away from liberal awareness campaigns, pinpoint sites of struggle/support, and heighten contradictions to build a world where love can flourish uninhibited by capitalist extraction.
