The long-awaited part 2 of A&L’s side pod, Fielderwatch, taking on the series finale of The Rehearsal with twitter’s most famous husband, Alec Robbins, and friend of the pod and union-certified painter of tunnels onto walls Hannah Guerrero! For a show that adores how tv gets made, it equally adores the psychological trauma of doing so, with the gut-wrenching sixth episode that speaks to not just the ethics of child actors as a concept, but expands on ideas first developed in Nathan For You, on what “help” can even mean. Hannah and Alec share their valuable insight as past and present film crew workers, explaining the actual level of labor that goes into the creation of the little moving square in your living room, and how those workplaces could produce great works democratically. Also, we didn’t take the week off, we did this interview!!
You’ve had your hot girl summer, white boy summer, and if you’re anything like us, you’ve still tossed and turned in your ac-less bedroom, dreaming of something greater. That’s why we’re partnering with the UN Gift Garden to present- Mastaba Snoopy Nonbinary Freak Summer! And kicking it off this week OK and Sarah are joined by longtime elusive keystone species of the pod Khamara and Spike for the long-awaited Dogwalking Episode. In preparation we’ve watched Masaaki Yuasa’s new rock opera Inu-Oh and Dog Soldiers, a pre-911 filmic treasure documenting the nyc dogwalking scene.
OK and Sarah this week cover the first two episodes of Nathan Fielder’s new video art collection The Rehearsal and larger labor politics of cast and crew, the work’s relationship to his former practice on Comedy Central, and the 2010 Tino Sehgal performance of This Progress at the good ‘ol famously liberatory Gug. Do you remember when Alec Baldwin killed that lady? Does your work love humans? Have you tried art? PS – Wild speculation about Beyoncé in front of Happy Fun dressed as Regalo’s green salsa.
**Though this clip is fairly tame, we want to put a big content warning on the full episode for discussions of child abuse, sexual exploitation, and bodily violence**

Artist, librarian, and furry historian O Horvath (aka Popple) is BACK! We discuss a YouTube video with over 270k views that believes the Renaissance was either made by computers or a mystical power—ancient alien cranks also racist against Italians. Public education is clearly failing, and even though libraries and archives will not save us, we must protect them!
Get ready to be triggered ’cause watched HBO’s Euphoria to join what feels like a mass movement to re-live highschool as self harm. An exploitative show about exploitation, all shot on film for an extra 20k per episode. Gilded age 2 baby, get on the combination MetroNorth/LIRR and lfg!!! We do a quiz in part 2 and discuss some dicey subjects too edgelord for main post Abe assassination: PART 2 HERE.
Fan favorite Sam Lefebvre’s newest work, the three-part series “A Generous Grift” for San Francisco-based community art space The Lab, is finally all here! We here at A+L felt the spacetime ripple from the upload and bolted awake in a cold sweat. Taking a magnifying glass to some particularly local, incredibly bold, and somehow publicly available fuckery from Oakland to Houston, Sam’s work expands past the typical conversation we have around how the art world perpetuates wealth for the wealthy, into direct examples of how museums uphold the real estate industry that causes our displacement and upholds the carceral state. All roads lead to tenant organizing, and any road after that you’re gonna have to figure out with your neighbors, in person. Shhhhhhhh🤫
We brought in writer and certified Canadian Graham (@GrahamSig) to discuss the bittersweet bummer that is the current state of the Toronto Comic Arts Festival. He shares over 10 years of TCAF memories with us, which is extremely helpful to the analysis we’ve been trying to pull out of our asses about the YA-ification of comics. Lefty artists are losing the battle of gentrification, is it possible to change the material landscape and maintain a creative community’s integrity under capitalism? Or are we building the bones for the next Vegandale? We also go on several tangents about a new atheist k-8th.
OK catches up with fan favorite fourth mic Joey De Jesus (@DeJesusSaves) to talk Pride month, gossip about NYC local elections/budget woes, and the trap of Puerto Rican statehood. Would you join the Queer liberation army? There’s gonna be sparkly maces involved! Also we’re leaning into groomer, it’s gonna be a whole problem. The establishment dems are ruining the parades and forging their ballot signatures, gotta hate being stuck in this garbage party! Putting another big trigger warning for serious gun violence during the last part of this episode.
I’m just asking questions- what if it all turned out to be lead the whole time? Generation theory: just lead? 20% chance of causing runaway climate collapse in this century, and people really want to get on our ass because of an insatiable desire (well, technically very satiable) to eat a Blake straight from the humidity-controlled archival reading room underneath the Seagram building? This week on Art and Labor: unspeakable tragedy, how artists fool themselves into thinking existing power structures give grants to people who’d threaten them. Rethink your entire practice, hon! Long live the hot dog fart zine scene!
